Baie des Citrons and Anse Vata
In the south of the city, Baie des Citrons and Anse Vata line up fine-sand beaches and coconut-tree promenades. People swim, run and share an ice cream at sunset. The Anse Vata bars come alive in the evening with concerts and seaside terraces. A perfect seaside setting for a first meeting, feet in the warm water.
Place des Cocotiers and the market
The historical heart, Place des Cocotiers aligns shaded alleys, a bandstand and a large pond. Free concerts draw a mixed crowd. A few steps away, Noumea market, under its hexagonal buildings, overflows with fish, bougnas and tropical fruit. A lively place, perfect to share a typical snack and the first words spoken out loud.
Kanak culture and islets
Designed by Renzo Piano, the Tjibaou Cultural Centre raises its contemporary huts in the vegetation of a peninsula: a dive into Kanak culture to share in silence. From Anse Vata, shuttle boats reach Canard Islet in twenty minutes for snorkelling and picnicking. On Lyad, Caledonian members share their favourite spots; it is up to you to find someone to slip on the mask with.
